Homeless Awareness Month 2022
November is Homelessness Awareness Month. Join us this November in helping those currently experiencing or at risk of homelessness right here in Utah! November was first declared National Homeless Awareness Month in 2007. Since then, November has been a time to bring attention to ways to help those children and families experiencing homelessness. Along with losing their homes, community, sometimes friends or family, and sense of stability and safety, many individuals experiencing homelessness are trying to survive on the streets. These individuals are often exposed to countless dangers and have an increased likelihood of substance abuse, impulsivity, depression, death from exposure, posttraumatic stress disorder, and a vulnerability to being trafficked.
Those experiencing homelessness often do not have the resources to advocate for themselves. Their community should feel obligated to utilize their privilege to assist those who are unable to assist themselves. At HomeAid Utah we work with a number of local service providers who are trained to help individuals get out of difficult situations and help them get back on their feet. Often these service providers have a deficit of resources to provide for the basic needs of these individuals. With the help of a group of students at Brigham Young University, HomeAid Utah created a Virtual Giving Machine to help close the gap of need for service providers.
The Virtual Giving Machine (VGM) has been an incredible resource to service providers over the last 2 years. To date, the VGM has resulted in the donation of over 35,000 unique items to a variety of frontline providers. Learn more and donate today by visiting the link below!
