The Family Support Center’s (FSC) LifeStart Village is designed to move single parents with children from dependency to self-sufficiency. In FSC’s transitional housing, LifeStart Village, single parents, and their children move from homelessness or near homelessness into safe, stable housing where they develop the necessary skills to create a stable, nurturing environment. In the dorm-like Phase I, and under the direction of a full-time director, the parents learn to become self-sufficient. They receive Life Focus training, parent education, financial budgeting education, are assisted in completing their GED, and acquiring and maintaining adequate employment. Upon completion of Phase I, parents can graduate to a self-sufficient rental townhome or cottage, Phase II.
The primary need for FSC is routine painting, flooring, and other upgrades to units in both phases I and II prior to a new family moving in.
Our initial two-unit project was limited to flooring only in which Majestic Flooring repaired and stretched the carpet in one unit and replaced the carpet and vinyl planking in an additional unit. This work was 100% donated by Majestic.
Our current three-unit project, in conjunction with Woodside Homes and their trade partners, is more extensive and includes full interior repaint, new flooring, new light fixtures, and plumbing fixtures. Woodside Homes has estimated the value of this project at $20,000 of which they have facilitated donations of all, but $1,500 which HomeAid Utah will cover from #TheAcademyMatch 2020 funds.
