The Red Barn Academy is a residential life-skills program in a farm setting. it’s a place where men with very broken lives due to addiction, criminality, and homelessness can come to live, free of charge, while they reinvent themselves through a rigorous two-year process that focuses on behavior modification and character development rather than the traditional drug treatment. Red Barn Academy is a therapeutic community that isn’t just about getting “clean and sober” but also about getting honest and accountable and learning to live a value-centered life of integrity. In addition to farm work, residents also work for Red Barn Movers, Red Barn Construction, and Red Barn Corporate Development.
Because of the overwhelming success of the program, the original 40-bed bunkhouse was beyond capacity and Red Barn undertook the construction of an additional 70-bed bunkhouse. Red Barn had reached out to Woodside Homes seeking 36 new shower inserts to replace the failing shower stalls in the original bunkhouse as well as for the new bunkhouse.
Through the HomeAid Utah network, Ferguson and Aquatic came together to fill the need. Aquatic donated 6 units and provided the remaining 30 at a price of $10,487.95. Thanks to the funds available through #TheAcademyMatch 2020, HomeAid covered the remaining balance; a total project value to Red Barn of $14,364.05.
